One of Australia’s rarest Porsches – a 1989 911 Wide Body Speedster – will be going under the hammer at Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction on Monday, May 5.

Black Beauties for Sale at Shannons

They are keenly sought-after sporting classics, both black and eye-wateringly beautiful to aficionados of their respective marques.

But while just 10 years separates their build dates, the two roadsters being offered at Shannons Melbourne summer Auction on Monday November 26 could have been built on different planets rather than in neighbouring countries.

Power, Prestige and Performance at QR

 POWER, PRESTIGE and PERFORMANCE are the three key words to sum up this weekends third round of the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships, to be held at Queensland Raceway near Ipswich.

The Shannons Nationals have so far brought a variety of national level Motorsport entertainment to Oran Park in Sydney and Phillip Island in Victoria and the series now heads to Queensland for the only time this year.

That’s a contentious point but we reckon the early Nineties Porsche 911 now fits the ‘classic’ analysis. And better still, it’s well enough equipped and sufficiently user-friendly to drive every day. Think of that: classic Porsche shape, excellent performance, very good handling and still with the conveniences like climate control and cruise we now take for granted.

Priceless Museum Porsches for Phillip Island

Porsche 911, Priceless Museum Porsches for Phillip IslandUp to seven rare and important racing Porsches from the company’s Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, are expected to be seen and heard at the Shannons 2007 Phillip Island Classic historic race meeting.

This follows Porsches inaugural support for this year’s ‘Classic’ in February, when six special Museum Porsches participated in parades and Regularity events, watched by an estimated 20,000 spectators.
